After losing her mother in a car accident, fourteen year old Tory Brennan, the niece of the world-famous forensics anthropologist, Temperance Brennan, moves in with her father, who never knew she existed. She now lives on Morris Island, South Carolina, which is, literally, in the middle of no where. She makes friends with the rest of the kids on Morris Island, who are major geeks just like her. They explore the island of Loggerhead were their parents work in the Loggerhead Island Research Institute (LIRI). One day they find a secret laboratory, in which a young wolf dog hybrid is being experimented on. They rescue the pup and take care of him. The puppy was infected with an experimental strain of Canine Parvovirus, and this one can infect humans.
It was a very exciting book, I really enjoyed it. It had lots of interesting facts about Parvovirus, forensic anthropology, and several other things. So as well as entertaining, this book is slightly educational. This book will appeal to any comedy lovers as well as adventure lovers. It was quite humorous. Like most books for teens, there is a romance being played out. This is a book for animal lovers as well, lots of animals including monkeys, wolves, sea life, birds, wolf dog hybrids, and normal dogs, along with just natural scenery come into this story. In all I think this is a really great read!
Along with all the fun, there is some things that are not so fun, such as: swearing, dead bodies (Hey, It's about Temperance Brennan's niece, what do you expect?) murder, some inappropriate comments, disturbing images, potty humor, breaking and entering, stealing, sneaking out, trespassing, lying, and total disregard for authority figures. So your normal Teen adventure story. The main characters are attacked multiple times with guns, and almost get shot.
I think you should be about thirteen to read this book. It's a rather mature book, but a very good story. The plot is well thought out and the characters are very realistic. Tory is a smart, funny, and strong character who does what she says she will. If you like Maximum Ride or Bones, or if just really like Sci-Fi adventure, this is the book for you. The book is thrilling, I loved it! There is a sequel, called Seizure. Thanks for reading, Bri π
Rated: PG-13 for disturbing images, inappropriate comments, potty humor, and mild swearing.
